5 Marathons, 5 Cities, 2 Great Charities
(New York City Marathon, November 2004)
Running one marathon is tough enough but running five in the space of eight months is surely bordering on the insane! Nevertheless that's just what North Doodle’s Duncan Vaughan is going to do in 2009 to aid two great cancer charities,
Christies and
Macmillan.
36 year old Duncan is aiming to raise a minimum of £25,000 for Christies and Macmillan by completing marathons in Barcelona, London, San Francisco, Berlin and New York, beginning in Barcelona on March 1st and finishing in New York on November 1st.
Said Duncan, “It's going to be tough but I've run both the London and New York marathons before in 2004 so I do have some experience, although this of course will be more than double that effort. I'm determined to complete all five for the simple reason that these are two causes very dear to my heart. My grandmother died from cancer before I was born and her friend, my ‘Aunty Moll', was a surrogate gran for me and a huge influence on my life. Sadly, she too succumbed to cancer when I was a teenager, but I've never forgotten her and I want to do something to help, albeit in a small way, those affected by cancer.”

Fivemarathons has several clever ways to raise the £25,000 target though, including special Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze ‘Sponsorship Packages' to tempt friends, colleagues and businesses to part with their hard-earned cash in exchange for their names to be carried around two continents and five great cities.
The packages range in cost from a modest £50 for the Bronze, to £1000 for the top of the range Platinum. Bronze includes acknowledgement on Pannone's website and an invite to a special Fivemarathons party at a top venue in Manchester and the Platinum package, available to one sponsor only, provides the sponsor with branding on Duncan's running top, a section on Pannone's website, ten invites to the Fivemarathons party and a host of other benefits.
